body

flutes
bordered
by
scalloped
bands
of
chased
dots
and
matting
. The
tubular
spout
is
raised
and has a
curved
elongated
tip
. A
small
elliptical
hole
is
cut
in the
body
behind
it
. The
handle
sockets
are
made
from
seamed
sheet
with
scalloped
outer
edges
, and the
C-curved
wooden
handle
is
attached
to
each
with a
silver
pin.

shaped
panel
of
cut-card
work
is
applied
to the
body
at the
upper
handle
socket
,
while
chased
acanthus
leaves
against
a
matted
ground
simulate
the
effect
around
the
lower
socket
and the
base
of the
spout
. The
domed
cover
is
raised
and
chased
with
concave
flutes
bordered
by
scalloped
bands
of
chased
dots
and
matting
. The
cover
has an
applied
lip
molding
and
bezel
and a
hole
cut
in its
center
,
beneath
which
is
soldered
a
small
cylinder
. The
removable
finial
consists
of a
cast
baluster
on a
circular
molded
disk
and
another
cylinder
,
which
fits
snugly
into the
cover
hole
. A
silver
chain
is
attched
to the
neck
of the
baluster
by a
single
ring
and to the
lip
molding
,
just
to the
right
of the
handle
, by
another
ring
. The
cover
is
attached
to the
upper
handle
socket
by a
3-part
hinge
and a
knurled
and
voluted
thumbpiece
. The
spout
has been
resoldered
, its
tip
is
a
later
addition
, and the
foot
may
have been
altered
